Biography
Hello, I'm Mohammed Najeeb. I've been a part of the Southeast VSA space for 3–4 years at this point, joining originally through KSU VSA. Joining VSA has been an incredibly transformative and impactful part of my college experience, and as I move into my career and the rest of my life, I hope to give back to the community and give others the chance to create all of the amazing relationships, friendships, and connections I have made through the past few years.
Personal Statement
Many of my experiences in both KSU VSA and UVSASE have helped prepare me for either the Vice President of Operations or Vice President of Membership Development roles. As Logistics Director for KSU VSA’s Culture Show last year, I was responsible for coordinating reservations, managing timelines, and working with different teams to make sure the event ran smoothly. This experience helped strengthen my organization and attention to detail, which would be important for responsibilities such as keeping records, managing schedules, and supporting the operational needs of UVSASE as VPO.
I have also gained experience building connections across the VSA community through working with UVSASE staff and interacting with other schools and their VSAs. Through these experiences, I developed stronger communication skills and learned how to build relationships with people across different organizations. These skills would help me support the Southeast Council and maintain strong partnerships between UVSASE and member schools as VPMD.
My main and most important goal in applying for Eboard stays true to the reason I decided to commit my time to VSA in the first place. When I first joined KSU VSA, I was welcomed by so many people despite not being Vietnamese. Even so, I found a group of people with similar interests and backgrounds where I was able to thrive and build many friendships and relationships. Because of that experience, I hope to give new and younger members that same opportunity. Whether it be at SELC, Olympics, or any other official or unofficial event, I want to help create spaces where new members can meet others, build connections, and feel encouraged to become more involved in their community.
I have held many positions throughout my time in the greater VSA space. I served as Historian for KSU VSA during the 2024–2025 year, where I developed and strengthened my leadership and delegation skills. During that time, I also functioned as an auxiliary member of our Eboard, helping other board members whenever needed. I especially enjoyed helping our EVP and building connections with UVSASE and other schools and their VSAs. Through these experiences, I was able to grow in communication, making connections, and forming new relationships with people across the community.
I was welcomed even more when I joined UVSASE as a staff member on the Marketing team. I flourished under my Marketing Director and used that experience, along with my experience as a senior advisor on KSU’s Eboard the following year, to help contribute to an engaging set of programs as a Programming Associate at SELC this past year. I also look forward to serving as a Logistics Associate for Olympics this year and helping give new UVSASE staff and attendees the opportunity to become more involved in their community. I also believe it is incredibly important to exemplify and honor Vietnamese culture, and I hope to share my appreciation for it with members across the Southeast and potentially even further beyond.

Application Questions & Responses
My biggest motivation behind running for EBoard has been a combination of the people, the experiences and friendships I have made through events like SELC and Olympics, and the opportunity to give back in a meaningful way to a community that has welcomed me despite my initial differences.

Interview Questions & Responses
I feel like my personal weakness when it comes to going into projects and such as this is, I do have a tendency to procrastinate. Like when something is given to me, I may not start right away. But so long as it has a deadline, I’ve never failed to meet my deadlines. And I found that within my grasp procrastination that I do tend to find new and creative ways to approach a project anyways. It’s not like I completely forget about it. It’s just I understand that my procrastination sometimes can make people feel a little uneasy, because they don’t think it’s gonna get done in time. But I’m typically reassuring, like I’m thinking about it, I’m gonna get it done, I promise. And if I need help, I’m not afraid to reach out. So there’s that too.
I work in creative and media. So we’re constantly being criticized for our work, but that’s part of the process. And we understand that that’s how to make a better product. Like everybody has different things that they can contribute. And ultimately, I understand that criticism comes from a place of wanting the end product to be good. So I don’t typically meet criticism badly. I find it as a learning process basically.
Actually I’m currently teaching to new editors for my company right now. And so a lot of it is giving feedback to them as well. And I’ve found that I kind of pick out places where they can improve and I work with them. It’s like, if you don’t know how to add this to it, then I can work with you, we’ll get on a call. And then I tend to see where their vision is coming from as well and we try to collaborate and work together to get to someplace that we’re happy with. I like to be very open and honest about my communication. But I do, I like to be nice about it as well.
I know we have unity, culture, leadership, and I believe it was development for organizations and such. I think our biggest, like our strongest pillar right now is probably development. Based on like all of our events that we do. We really focused on helping the people that are able to attend get a better handling of life. their journeys, what they can do to improve in their position. But I think our weakest pillar is probably culture, we don’t really get a chance to tap on that very much. Because we’re so focused on helping here and now of our members, which is, I think, understandable, but it’s something that we could definitely work on.
Well, I did touch upon this in my application. I think it’s comes at a time that’s very convenient for me in the sense that I work in live streaming. So that platform of being able to reach people through the internet is something that I work with already. And I think it’s a great tool to use at this time for our constituents. And like if we took a lead from UNAVSA, for example, is doing a virtual experience, I think that we can definitely head towards that direction. It’s not impossible. And also, being in media for the past two years in the Southeast, I know that it’s been a conversation about creating more content for our members. And so I think people would definitely be onboard, seeing more from us in that way. And also gives people a chance to get to know the people behind the scenes a little bit more, I feel like so there’s a bit of transparency there. The Olympics one, I would definitely have to work with people on how we could possibly do a sports related activity, maybe online gaming instead. But definitely sharing maybe interviews and workshops online. I think that’s probably where we are headed if we have to continue our social distancing staying in touch.
It is very situational in the sense that like, how many times have we asked this person to complete their duties, reminding them that, “Hey, you agreed that these are the tasks that you will have to complete and meet certain deadlines.” I feel like after a certain number of times, it is the job of probably Eboard to step in and take over a situation because they, a director has many members that depend on them for leadership. And if they’re not providing that leadership, then it becomes up to us to step in and provide for them to continue the process of whatever goal we’re heading towards, whether it be a conference or a camp, right. So I think that’s probably the response of giving them time to try to fix it themselves, giving them suggestions like “Hey, do you need help?” because I understand that there’s possibly personal matters that are going on That decision as well, of not fulfilling their duties. So once we work it out with them, if it’s still not being met, then I feel like we would have to take action ourselves.
[For Eboard,] I feel like it’s fairly the same in the sense that like, this is someone that I’m probably going to be working with very often. So again, it’s talking to them first as a person was like, “Hey, something going on? Do you need help? Do you need us to take something off your plate true, so that you can get back on track?” And then if whatever help is offered is not remedying the situation. Then we have to come to a decision ourselves on how to handle it like together because we are a team at the end of the day.
I feel like my first response is to be like somewhat of a mediator in this situation and reminding them that we are a team and we do have work that needs to get done that we all agreed to doing at the start of this. If we have this hard deadline like you say coming up, then I feel like the other team members can step up and try to help to meet that deadline first. If the issue cannot be resolved right away, then once that deadline is met and we can move on, we’ll have some more time to work out their problems. That way, whatever we’re working on isn’t jeopardized, and then we can handle our personal issues after.
Well, personally, this is a very serious matter. Um, and I would have to respect the person that’s coming forward with this information, keeping privacy for them is one thing. Another is handling what they would like to do next in this situation. There is the option of going to authorities and reporting. But some I understand that sometimes that may not be the next step a victim of sexual harassment wants to do. What we can do as a board is I believe blacklisting is one thing, giving a warning, removing this person from an event… There are certain things within the power of Eboard that we can do for them and keeping distance between them as they decide on what they want to do next in the situation as well.
